NOVA

Written and performed by award-winning writer and actress Obehi Janice (Blindspotting on Starz, Dicktown on FX) comes Nova - a new theatre-storytelling show following a Nigerian-American comedian as she navigates desire, power, and pussy.

Nova is a bit of a romantic. She’s smooth. She’s good with her words. And she loves to fuck.

She’s making an archive - a gallery of lovers - The Story of Her Life.

Nova has discovered that Giacomo Casanova, ‘best known as one of the most famous lovers in history’, did the same. Why does this scammy white European man claim the title and the story? Casanova exists in notoriety and glory but Nova does it better.

Funny, insightful and groundbreaking, Nova moves us through a series of her romantic and sexual entanglements that will make us laugh, squirm, and holler.

Press for NOVA

“Janice carries Nova with a confidence that is rare to see on stage. Her energy never falters, even the quieter, slower moments held with the same measured control. She commands a crowd and it’s fun and thoughtful simply because she says so. The humour is never mean – it’s simply unforgiving and righteous, and deservedly so. Sexual jokes aren’t blushed over and it’s a refreshing relief. Nova is incisive and it doesn’t ponder; rather, our leading lady makes her point and never misses.” - Eilidh Akilade, Fest

“Nova is breathtaking in its originality, as entertaining as it is intellectually provocative. Themes are explored with great subtlety, letting the audience come to their own realisations even as Janice tells an incredibly personal tale. This one is a must-see.” - The List

Nova, from the Lyceum and Pemberley Productions at the Lyceum Studio is a bright, sparkling, provocative and convincing piece of work.” - All Edinburgh Theatre

The speedy pace and slick direction of the piece make it an unexpected joy to spend 70 minutes at the Lyceum Studio in the late afternoon. Overall this refreshingly confident performance leaves you feeling alive and like you have a new BFF that you can’t wait to hear tell you another love story. Bring on the movie!” - Rupert Dannreuther, To Do List
